Summary of Job Duties:Project Leader Assistance: Assist with experimental plots maintenance and application of treatments/cultural practices and collection of data. As requested performs effective farm labor involving land preparation, planting and crop maintenance using tractors and equipment.
Anticipate Project Leader needs to improve assistance and communication.
Interacts well with faculty, staff and students with low incidence of legitimate complaints.
Machine Maintenance: Repair and maintenance of farm and lab machinery and vehicles. Order parts as needed. Performs scheduled lubrications and inspection of farm and lab equipment including tractors, field equipment, harvest equipment, mowers, various motors, and vehicles. Operates equipment in a safe and professional manner. Keeps precise and up to date records.
Facility Maintenance and Repair: Repair and maintain Horticulture farm buildings and greenhouses.
Repair and maintain the following: furniture, windows and doors, plumbing, painting, carpentry, fences and roads. Keeps precise and up to date records of weather, fuel and maintenance schedules.
Repairs equipment in a precise and timely manner. Assists others with equipment problems.
Paints and repairs horticulture equipment and buildings.
Supervision: Supervise and monitor classified and seasonal employees. Stay informed about employee performance and job responsibilities. Provides on-going feedback to improve employee performance. Encourage people to solve problems on their own. Builds positive relationships.
Encourages teamwork. Encourages staff in professional development and improvement of skills.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus five years of progressively more responsible experience in farming operations, including two years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
