Job Description:

The Launch Communications team is responsible for Boca Chica launch and landing site voice, video, RF, telemetry and optical tracking, marine RF and optical systems, launch and mission operational voice, video, and communications readiness testing, and real-time operations for Starship. The Boca Chica Launch Communications group supports our busy launch site operations with responsibility over the telecommunications infrastructure, operational voice, mission critical video, vehicle and payload interface RF systems, and real time operations. This position would be a lead member of the team, responsible for supervising the technicians based in Brownsville, Texas.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interface with external carriers (private and government) at cross-connect facilities, and transition points
  • Provide superior customer service to SpaceX launch customers
  • Prioritize and schedule work to meet required timelines
  • Provide QA and auditing before and after work
  • Collaborate with the communication engineers and telecommunication specialist in system designs, selection of materials, and creation of documentation
  • Provide ongoing feedback, periodic review, and corrective action to direct reports
  • Supervise technician teams to install and maintain mission critical communication systems
  • Assist with the creation of local and companywide installation and workmanship standards
  • Maintain the integrity of the documentation of all installations including assets, locations, connectivity, and the patch record databases
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of candidates for open positions in the team
  • Provide feedback and progress updates to project stakeholders
  • Evaluate, diagnose, troubleshoot cabling infrastructure systems and perform repairs as necessary
  • Review timesheets, manage overtime and time off requests
  • Verify compliance with OSHA regulations and SpaceX safety requirements
  • Coordinate with other contractors and project teams as needed

Job Requirements:

  • IP and HD-SDI Video cameras and infrastructure
  • Proven ability to install, terminate and test low voltage and fiber optical cables; including twisted pair cable, coax, stranded and solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode and multi-mode fiber optical cables
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems including UPS and standby power systems
  • Must be able to distinguish between different colors and possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks
  • Willingness to work long hours, some nights and weekends when need to meet critical deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of Visio or other CAD software to read and develop system documentation
  • Comprehension of modern networking architecture and what is necessary for physical layer inter-connectivity
  • Sound knowledge of computer skills, MS Words, Excel, and Power Point

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in the installation and operation of RF communication systems
