Short Description / Purpose of Job
The Senior Specialist Opportunity Realisation supports the Principal Specialist Opportunity Realisation to develop Gate 1 technical packages for the low carbon business opportunities for brownfield and greenfield applications across the six prioritised use cases for Low Carbon Energy Solutions (green H2, green ammonia, green methanol, green steel, sustainable aviation fuel and H2 mobility).
Responsible for critical assessment of sustainability projects/initiatives, co-creation of solutions and then leading the development of these projects to ensure that the Energy Business’s environmental sustainability intent are realised through the consistent implementation of demonstration/proof of concept projects and securing of partnerships that will enable Energy Business’s decarbonisation plans.
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Influence business decisions (by supporting lower carbon market development, green financing sourcing, policy solution development and technology selection activities) to promote sustainable activities and enhance environmental and social performance
Responsible for development of database of relevant capital cost and schedule benchmarks for low carbon projects across the six prioritised use cases to ensure that Gate 1 CAPEX estimates and schedules are aligned with global best practices and Sasol’s learnings
Collaborates with post Gate 1 team (prefeasibility team) to ensure the smooth transition to Gate 2 i.e. the Gate 1 package contains all relevant documents and covers key deliverablesisks for Gate 2 (prefeasibility study)
Responsible for reviewing scope of Gate 1 study and developing an appropriate development fund budget for next phase of study to ensure that all technical, project, business and environmental (SHE) risks are adequately addressed
Responsible for maintaining database of lessons learnt from Gate 2 (and post Gate 2) and incorporating findings in screening process (Gate 1 development)
Lead concept development of Environmental Sustainability projects/initiatives (greenfield projects, demonstration projects, offset projects, plastic initiatives, internal Sustainability drives, etc.) and interfaces with relevant internal and external stakeholders to co-create solutions that showcase Sasol’s climate change intent.
Support the development and submission of sustainability roadmap related project proposals for grant and concessional financing offered through external financing houses
Coordinates cross-cutting (business strategy, sustainability, technology, operations) evaluation of projects/partnerships against agreed criteria and continuously improves on assessment approach thereby ensuring that a robust/credible portfolio of projects/partnerships is in place
Establish and sustain effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and the community to pave the way for developing a funnel of projects that enable Sasol to achieve its low carbon business objectives.
Develops intelligence and value offering analysis on Environmental Sustainability orientated technical partners who can accelerate Sasol’s plans
3-year University Bachelor’s Degree
8+relevant years’ experience (preference to engineering experience)
