Job Description:

The role is positioned such that the Mechanical Engineering Project Lead will be the primary point of contact between section 333 and the DSN Project Office for assigned projects. As part of this role, the Project Lead would be responsible for managing and integrating the line elements involved in producing products required by the project for a given task. This includes oversight of the total funding of large tasks and work with the program office to ensure that implementation schedules as developed are aligned with the network schedule.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain project schedules from development, testing, and implementation, in coordination with the DSN scheduling team.
  • Organize and present DSN process reviews with input from task team, both inside section 333 and from other organizations (such as Div. 39, Navigation, Operation Engineering, the various DSCCs, etc.).
  • Lead implementation efforts coordinating with engineering, the program office, implementing DSCC, and network scheduling.
  • Assure the technical integrity, quality, and value of the work performed through functional requirements, interface agreements, and peer reviews.
  • In coordination with System Engineering determine required baseline and system-level testing requirements and ensure completion.
  • Work with DSN System Engineering to evaluate task proposals from the DSN Project Office.
  • Negotiate and manage task budgets throughout the task lifecycle, working as or in conjunction with Cost Account Managers (CAMs) from various groups and review associated Work Agreements.

Job Requirements:

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary groups and teams towards on-time delivery of technical designs and field implementation of complex novel systems.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience planning budgets, estimating costs to accomplish work and mitigating risks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 6 years related professional experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, or Ph.D with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
