Job Description:

The SMS Manager manages the Safety Management System (SMS) for the Accountable Executive. The SMS Manager is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting information about hazards, incidents, or accidents within the workplace in order to develop response procedures and ways to improve safety within the workplace with direction from the Director of Maintenance and the 705/704 Operations Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a reporting system to ensure the timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents and accidents that may adversely affect safety (Safety Management System (SMS));
  • Identify hazards and carry out risk management analyses of those hazards;
  • Investigate, analyze, and identify the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the Safety Management System (SMS);
  • Establish and maintain a safety data system, by electronic or other suitable means, to monitor and analyze trends in hazards, incidents, and accidents;
  • Monitor and evaluate the results of the Corrective Action Plans with respect to hazards, incidents, and accidents;
  • Monitor the concerns of the civil aviation industry in respect of safety and their perceived effect on the Central Mountain Air Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) and the Operating Certificates;

Job Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of airline operations, procedures, and activities;
  • Broad aviation technical knowledge;
  • Extensive knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) and completion of appropriate Safety Management System (SMS) training;
  • Solid understanding of risk management principles and techniques to support the Safety Management System (SMS);

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience implementing and/or managing a Safety Management System (SMS);
  • Experience and qualifications in aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors;
  • Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections;
  • Ample experience in aviation safety in the capacity of an aviation safety investigator, safety/quality manager or safety risk manager;
