The Role

Seequent (a Bentley Systems company) are currently in search of a high calibre and experienced Business Development Manager to find and develop new subsurface business opportunities, across Mining and Minerals, Civil, Energy and Environment, with a focus on new and existing business development across government and industry. We envisage 80% of your time will be dedicated to Mining and Minerals, and the remaining 20% shared across the other segments. This is an area of significant importance and potential growth for Seequent and forms a core part of the African regions three year growth plan as well as Seequent’s wider strategy of building a diversified business across all Seequent Segments.

As a Business Development Manager, your role will be focused on growing, developing and maintaining, new and existing business directly, through partners and via governments across the African region with a particular focus on new countries. Due to the nascent nature of many of these potential accounts along with the potential opportunity for growth, a dedicated business development focus is required.

The goal of this role is to enable the region to meet its strategic objective of sustainable, long-term sales growth. You will be working closely with Regional Manager – Africa to define a detailed regional segment strategy which supports our growth aspirations.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To

  • Work with the regional manager – Africa to develop a Business Development plan for the Subsurface Segments.
  • Account management on a case-by-case bases across existing strategic accounts, where there are significant business development value and potential. Stay abreast of all account activity, understand who to engage with in the greater business to further opportunities that may arise.
  • Draw up a target list of BD countries and customers, focused first on Mining & Minerals, but also Energy and Civil.
  • Action the above plan, establishing new opportunities to support the growth of the region.
  • Build a network of contacts to help you execute the above – be they partner, Government or end customer, even trade bodies.
  • Understand our customers technical problems / customer needs and set meetings with appropriate Seequent team members to further these opportunities.
  • Manage and lead the negotiation and closing of business to business/sales contracts.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of content in the CRM.
  • Monthly sales and annual target forecasting of assigned and new accounts.
  • Customer catch up meetings (quarterly) with assigned accounts.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Should Have

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Minimum 10 years’ commercial experience with experience in a SaaS sales organisation preferable.
  • Strong commercial acumen with track record in sales, pipeline management and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated capability with enterprise sales and solution selling.
  • Business development and negotiation skills, in addition to strategic account planning experience.
  • Significant experience and the personal EQ, character, and aptitude to open new doors, meet new people, in new countries across the African continent.
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, decision making and prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into insights.
  • Innovative, open to and able to work in a fast growing, fast paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Have exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Are motivated with an ability to work independently and prioritize your work.
  • Are proactive – identifying ways to improve processes, take opportunities to learn when presented.
  • Knowledge and experience across the geoscience discipline an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience across mining industry an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience across complex government tenders and account development an advantage.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills. Additional skills across Salesforce CRM and PowerBI an advantage.
  • Confident oral and written communication skills in English (Other languages a plus)
