The key purpose of the Product Owner – DTC will be to deliver digital products that our consumers love and which create value for our business. This role would be responsible for all technical components to the DTC solutions across all markets in the Africa zone and will be working closely with the DTC teams in the various commercial teams in each market we operate in. The Product Owner is responsible and accountable for managing the product backlog as well as own the full spectrum of design, build, test, deploy and operation activities.

Key Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the scrum master, scrum team, and external customers and stakeholders to deliver technology products that our customers love and that create value for our business
  • Establish and grow a deep understanding of customer and stakeholder needs and opportunities – spending approximately 50% of the time with customers, ideally in their place of work
  • Drive strategic planning, drafting of key objectives, and use of data to drive product definition at all levels of feature, epic, and story
  • Manage, track, and incorporate regular feedback of key results and release outcomes into the product development cycle
  • Ensure that backlog items and stories are clearly expressed, guided by a ‘definition of ready’, are visible and transparent, and understood by the team
  • Manage the priority of the product backlog with feedback from the scrum team and constant input from customers and stakeholders
  • Ensure that all tech governance, processes and controls are considered and built into each product backlog – including MICS/SOX requirements
  • Manage financial planning, budgeting, cost and performance management for the scrum team, outsourced resources and vendors, and scrum products
  • Lead discovery activities within the scrum team, understanding customer problems and prototyping and testing potential product and technology solutions
  • Own adoption, usage and the customer experience of the scrum team products
  • Lead day to day responsibility for the ownership and resolution of service management and operational issues which arise with the scrum team products
  • Champion Agile and DevOps best practices, and drive continuous improvement of process and capabilities across the organization
  • Drive the use and leverage of the right technology for the job, remaining up to date with the latest technology trends and actively modernize our technology estate
  • Coach and develop scrum team members across technical, functional and leadership dimensions

Profile:

  • Leadership and technical competencies
  • Technology related B Degree, Diploma or business related qualification
  • Effective communication techniques – including verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership, influencing, and team building skills
  • Continuous Improvement and Problem solving skills
  • Deep understanding of Agile, DevOps, and lean process tools and techniques (certified scrum master and/or product owner preferred )
  • Skill in analysing complex issues to determine root causes and to find innovative solutions
  • Demonstration of characteristics such as creativity and motivation
  • Ability to engage with and influence senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Business oriented mind-set with the ability to set and maintain a departmental budget
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of an organization focused on value creation, impediment & waste removal, and overall velocity increase
  • Strategic, execution and innovative thinking – demonstrated success delivering complex projects quickly using agile mindset
  • Experienced in agile project, program, and portfolio management and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach teams and lead peers
